Very cute spot in Hyde Park not far from the Museum of Science and Industry. They sat a large group of us (13) and were so gracious. The service was excellent and the food was amazing! Excellent GF options as well.
So our gang of 6 (3 couples) were finally able to all gather again, and given my past experiences at Ascione Bistro I thought it would be a nice spot for us to break bread together. I could not be happier with my selection, and A.B. simply hit a home run! Outstanding food and service. This is a wonderful restaurant that I highly recommend to all Chicagoans.
My hubby and I ventured to this restaurant due to a recommendation from a friend. They have a lovely patio covered and heated for the cool months. They have a nice wine list, which I will be back to try more. I had a glass of Riesling, which was ok. They are standard italian restaurant that service pasta, meats, salads, and fish. My favorite was the bread and happy hour maguerite pizza. That bread was fresh and hot! You have to ask for their happy hour menu! Boo to the hostesses and waiter for not providing that information when we sat down. I found that information on their social media page. My husband did not like the tuna tartar. The manager came out and chatted with us about the tuna. He assured us that the tuna was good, but my husband just wasn't a fan. I wasn't a huge fan of the octopus, but it was edible. I will definitely be back to try some of the happy hour drinks, bread, and enjoy their patio.
The service was amazing! I say this with a party of 12 who did bottomless. Our server made sure our glasses were topped off the whole time. There is a decently selection of food for brunch as well! From pasta, sliders, and your regular brunch offers. There was also a patio outside which would have been a perfect day for us to be out there. Linguine Carbonara: the pasta was al dente and full of flavor! Made sure to mix the egg in well to get it incorporated with the pasta. Would have loved a little more bacon, but overall portion was perfect. $16. 8.2/10
The brunch experience here did not disappoint! We sat outside on the patio and gas bottomless mimosas with assorted juices! Service was great... we even enjoyed complimentary lemon drop shots. The food was delicious... definitely want to come back to try the dinner menu.
This upscale Italian restaurant has become the go to for celebrations in the neighborhood. Ingredients, preparation and presentation are top notch, as is the service level. The restaurant was busy when we arrived on Friday at 7 PM, but they were able to seat us immediately. Definitely don't plan on that always being the case. While looking at the menu, they brought us warm bread and olive oil for dipping. Also the Paper Plane cocktail I had ordered. The paper plane cocktail was created in Chicago. I went with the Duck risotto and my father with the Branzino fish. I think my dish was more attractively plated, but you can be the judge from the pictures. Certainly, the flavors were excellent. And there was enough duck meat for me. I did not try my father's fish, but he was quite happy with it. For dessert, my father gelato with strawberries. Gelato was very good. Strawberries were not really peak ripeness. Rather than specifying strawberries I think they should have just said berries and then used whatever was particularly good that evening. I had the affogato which is vanilla ice cream with espresso poured over it at table. The vanilla flavor was very present. The sweetness of the ice cream was set off nicely by the bitterness of the coffee. They have covered outdoor seating with heat lamps in winter and inside seating, which is comfortable enough without being in your neighbor's lap. I forget which glass of wine I ordered, but it's bouquet was a little musty even after 10 minutes. They took it back without objection. I ordered the Barbera instead. That was a very nice glass. As Arnold might say, "we'll be back!"
The ambiance, food, and service were top drawer!!! I will come back, and hopefully bring guests with me.
We dropped by for a late dinner but the service was still lovely and the food was excellent! I ordered the soup, salad, and broccolini rather than order a main. The lobster bisque was excellent, the caesar was tasty, and the broccolini was good as well. If I lived in Chicago I'd certainly be back. I admit I had trouble understanding my server a bit, but he was very friendly.
Ascione was a wonderful brunch in the most beautiful space. The colors are all creams, navys and golds, which is such a vibe. Service was wonderful, though we were seated at the small booth closest to the door and it was COLD. We asked to be moved, but they couldn't accommodate us, which was the only bummer of the experience. Food was excellent. I had the lox Benedict, which was delicious, paired with an aperol spritz. My friend and I shared the salted caramel apple tarte, which was flaky and sweet, but the ice cream was definitely the best part. Parking is easy, too, because they do have a lot, which is always a plus! I would definitely return! :)
After taking on a job as a sous chef at an extremely busy North Shore concert venue, I found myself unable to partake in one of my favorite activities...checking out unfamiliar restaurant terrain. After an unexpected, midweek day off, I was asked on a dinner date and told I could choose where. Since I'm now a Hyde Parker and Ascione Bistro has been on my hit list for the past couple of years, that was my choice. My date and I showed up to Ascione Bistro on a balmy Thursday evening and were immediately shown to our table. Since it was such a beautiful night and the patio scene was so lively, I would have loved to partake in its alfresco dining. But alas, the wait was long and I was hungry, so inside we went. This restaurant is so cozy, warm and inviting with dark wood and the most vibrant shades of blue. Although it took a while for our server to show up, when she did, she was friendly and attentive. With so many delicious items to choose from, we finally chose the arancini, heirloom and wedge salads and the Fiorentina steak for the table, which came with cannelini beans and roasted potatoes. The arancini were perfectly crunchy with a delightful truffle cream sauce; the salads were exceedingly fresh and tasty and the main course blew me away. The medium steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection--nice char on the outside, tender inside. And I don't think I've ever had more delicious white beans in my entire life! Trying to figure out how to get that recipe from them. Ascione Bistro is definitely an asset not only to Hyde Park, but the entire city. I will be back!!
